M&E Operations Director

The Opportunity

We are working with an established and growing M&E Contractor based in Hertfordshire to appoint an experienced M&E Operations Director.

The business specialises predominantly in the residential sector, delivering mechanical and electrical packages across major residential developments throughout London and the South East.

This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for the operational performance of the business, overseeing projects from pre-construction and mobilisation through to delivery, commissioning and handover.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Managing Director and senior leadership team and will take ownership of project performance, operational standards, client relationships and the development of the delivery team.

Key Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the successful operational delivery of the company’s M&E projects.

• Lead and manage the operational team, including Project Directors, Project Managers, Contracts Managers and site-based management.

• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.

• Maintain oversight of project commercial performance alongside the Commercial Director and Quantity Surveying team.

• Review project performance, identifying risks and implementing corrective action where required.

• Oversee project mobilisation, procurement strategy, labour requirements and resource planning.

• Ensure appropriate management structures and resources are in place across all live projects.

• Work closely with pre-construction and estimating teams to ensure a smooth transition from tender through to delivery.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients, developers, main contractors, consultants and supply-chain partners.

• Attend senior-level client and project meetings where required.

• Support the business in securing repeat work and developing existing client relationships.

• Drive operational consistency, processes and reporting across the business.

• Recruit, develop and mentor senior operational staff.

• Promote a strong culture around health & safety, quality, accountability and project ownership.

• Provide regular operational and project performance reports to the Managing Director and Board.

• Play a key role in the continued growth and strategic direction of the company.

The Candidate

We are looking for an established senior M&E professional with significant experience working for an M&E Contractor.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience as an Operations Director, Operations Manager, Project Director or Contracts Director within an M&E contracting environment.

• Strong experience delivering large-scale residential M&E projects.

• Excellent understanding of both mechanical and electrical building services.

• A proven track record of managing multiple projects and operational teams simultaneously.

• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project profitability.

• Experience managing senior Project Managers, Contracts Managers and site teams.

• Excellent client-facing and relationship-management skills.

• The ability to identify project risks early and implement solutions.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and hold senior teams accountable.

• Experience working within a growing M&E business would be particularly advantageous.

Salary: £150,000 per annum
