An outstanding opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Health & Safety / Senior HSE Manager to join a leading Tier 1 construction contractor, taking a senior leadership role across a portfolio of major projects throughout London.

This is a high-profile position for an accomplished HSE professional who can lead from the front, influence at Director level and drive an exceptional safety culture across multiple projects and teams.

THE ROLE

You will take overall responsibility for Health, Safety and Wellbeing across a major London portfolio, providing strategic leadership while ensuring the highest standards are maintained at project level.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading the Health & Safety strategy across multiple major construction projects

• Managing, mentoring and developing a team of H&S Managers and Advisors

• Providing strategic HSE advice to Directors and senior operational management

• Driving a proactive, behavioural and positive safety culture throughout the business

• Setting and maintaining HSE standards, policies and procedures

• Overseeing project audits, inspections and compliance programmes

• Monitoring performance, trends, KPIs and leading indicators

• Leading investigations into significant incidents and ensuring lessons learned are implemented

• Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 and all relevant UK H&S legislation

• Challenging and influencing operational teams to continually improve standards

• Engaging with clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders at senior level

• Supporting pre-construction and tender teams on H&S strategy

• Identifying emerging risks and implementing preventative measures

• Reporting HSE performance and recommendations directly to senior leadership

• Developing and delivering initiatives to continually improve safety performance across the region

THE CANDIDATE

We are looking for a credible and experienced senior Health & Safety leader with a strong background in major construction.

Ideally, you will have:

• Significant experience in a Senior HSE Manager, Regional HSE Manager, Head of Health & Safety or equivalent leadership position

• Strong Tier 1 main contractor or major construction experience

• Proven experience managing and developing HSE teams

• Experience overseeing multiple complex, high-value projects

• NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 6 or equivalent

• CMIOSH status highly desirable

• Excellent knowledge of CDM Regulations and UK H&S legislation

• Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills

• The ability to influence Project Directors, senior management and clients

• A commercial and practical approach to Health & Safety

• A track record of driving measurable improvements in safety performance and culture
